許多粉絲期待已久的《超級瑪利歐》動畫電影沒法趕上今年的聖誕節了。早些時候任天堂宣佈會將這部新片的上映時間從 2022 年 12 月延後至 2023 年 4 月，目前已確定北美和日本院線的首映日期分別是 4 月 7 日和 28 日。至於推遲的原因，老任並未透露，不清楚它是否與疫情有關。在官方推文中宮本茂表示這是其與 Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri 共同的決定，並承諾「一切都會值得等待」。

《超級瑪利歐》動畫電影的籌備始於 2017 年，而且一直是 Illumination 過去幾年「優先推進」的計畫。在片中「星爵」Chris Pratt 將為瑪利歐獻聲，路易吉和碧琪公主則分別由 Charlie Day 和 Anya Taylor-Joy 擔綱，此外 Jack Black、Seth Rogen 等明星也均會參與該片的配音。
