M528這款MID大家之前已經看過了，不過今天小弟再跑去看時，展場悄悄的多出了一台M700。這台使用VIA C7-M的UMPC擁有1024x600的觸控螢幕，跑的是Vista Home Premium，並支援3.5G和WiMax。不過在問時PM小姐一直強調這台機器的規格還在修改中（不是很早就公布了@@），並表示在上市時應該也可以跑XP和Linux。由於基本上操作就是一台一般的Vista UMPC的感覺，所以就沒錄影什麼的了。比較有趣的是內建的軟體鍵盤，雖然沒辦法把機器拿出來試按，不過大小應該是符合手掌大小沒錯（跳轉有照片 ），另外M700所搭配的底座並沒有出現在會場，看來技嘉是先把主力放在M528上了。至於上市時間應該是八月多。

<Computex: Gigabyte M700>
This UMPC runs on VIA C7-M CPU with Windows Vista Home Premium. The display resolution is 1024x600. Supports 3.5G and WiMAX. Expected to be available sometime in August this year with support for XP and Linux. Other interesting feature include on screen virtual keyboard, as demonstrated in photo below.

這次技嘉除了是把焦點鎖定在 M912 這台輕省筆電身上之外，展場當中其實還有一些大家也很關注的產品，而小編有幸玩到的，則是這台 MID M528。

作業系統不用說，當然不可能是啥大家太熟悉的東西；實際請他們操作的時候，除了開機會出現一個飄來飄去的不能玩的打磚塊小遊戲之外，主要是透過一個叫做旋轉木馬的介面（Merry-Go-Around iCON interface）來操作；總之，一切都在跳轉後影片、圖片當中，請各位慢慢收看囉！（在場的 PM 大哥，辛苦了！）

[Hands on with the Gigabyte MID M528]

Although Gigatye's focus is on the M912 ultra-portable notebook, they have a lot more to offer. The MID M528, for example, is another hot mobile device.

The OS on the MID M528 is something called the "Merry-Go-Around icon interface." It's hard to explain how it works, so check out the videos and pictures to see for yourself.

幾分鐘前還身份不明的神祕筆電現在已經身份大白了，原來是 7" 螢幕，代號 M724 的技嘉輕省筆電。M724 和 M912 似乎是共用相同的機身，只是螢幕真的小很多而已。預計搭載 Windowx XP Tablet PC 版或 Ubuntu Linux，並在六月底上市，售價「15000 起」，不過九成是指 Linux 版吧...

UPDATE：M724 實際上不會出現在一般通路上，它是專為學校／政府機關等大量買主做的版本，所以大家可以不用擔心被數位相框級的 M724 能不能見人了。不過話說回來，那先前聽到的 「15000 起」售價，不會指的是 Linux 版的 M912 吧？（口水直流中）

<Computex 2008: More Ultra-Portables – GIGABYTE M724>
This M724 seem to be sharing the same chassis as GIGABYTE M912, except with a much smaller 7" display. M724 is expected to be available sometime around end of June with Windows XP Tablet PC edition or Ubuntu Linux as OS options. Price start from NT$15000 (USD 495).

M724 will not be available to general consumer market; it's specifically catered for education / government market only.

我們運氣還不錯，技嘉在我們還沒離開南港時就向 Intel 拗到可以開機我們看，結果打開後是什麼？Vista！據技嘉的人說明，會決定採用 Vista 是因為 M912 採用了觸控式的面版，而和 Win XP Tablet PC 版相較，Vista 比較符合經濟效益。這也是我們看到的第一台跑 Vista 的 Atom 輕省筆電，嚴格來說跑起來比想像中順一些，但不知道對電池有什麼樣的影響（這要拿回來測才能確定）

另外，M912 的轉軸只能順時針轉，不能逆時針轉。出現在先前照片上的那台是「原型機」，之後再出的機器都只能轉單向了。這篇只是趕一些比較急的新資訊出來，後面還會有一篇比較完整的。敬請期待～

<Computex 2008: What? GIGABYTE M912 Runs Vista?>

After some 'negotiation' by the GIGBYTE representative, INTEL agreed to boot the machine. According to GIGABYTE representatives, the choice is largely due to the fact that M912 uses a touchscreen panel, and in comparison, Vista is a more cost-effective choice than Win XP Tablet PC edition. This is the first Atom-based ultra-portable we see that runs Vista, and it appear to be running smoother than expected, though impact on battery life is yet to be determined.

Some now-known-facts here:

l The bi-directional hinge featured in earlier reports is for prototype model only. The screen hinge of the production model will only turn clock-wise direction.

l Vista Experience index is 2.7 (it is unclear whether the machine completed the full test or not)

l Official figure on battery life is 4 hours on a 4-cell battery.

l Alternative OS choice will be Ubuntu Linux.
