PSP2 "Cobalt" to feature dual analog, UMD, 8GB of flash? Don't count on it. {Engadget}
Jan 18th 2007 6:34PM True, the analog thumbsticks don't look good there, but the taper of the sides and placement of the pots make for good ergonomics. When I hold my hands like they would be on this mockup, it feels more natural to keep the thumbs higher, rather than down at the bottom of the console's case.
Details: If it's a flash drive built in, why does the indicator light say "HD"? The larger set of buttons across the bottom are most welcome. No matter how thin they'd like it to be, it would be best to make the UMD an *external* device, or it will never win many over.
Not the best of chops, real or fake, but it has some good ideas.
The widescreen iPhone -- not so widescreen {Engadget}
Jan 17th 2007 10:33AM So... According to your logiv, all those millions of 16:10 LCD notebooks and monitors out there are no longer "widescreen"?
The widescreen iPhone -- not so widescreen {Engadget}
Jan 17th 2007 10:15AM I want to echo what other have said about your iPhone's "widescreen" bashing. Is it wider than 4:3? Yes. And noticibly so. Gee, guess that means it's a WIDESCREEN. It may not be 16:9, but it's damn close, and to the best of my knowledge, the iPhone has never claimed to have a specific screen ratio.
"Pirates" aspect ratio is among the WIDEST of movie film standards of formatting at 2.35:1 and no one on the planet supports that ratio natively, producing edge-to-edge, undistorted viewing on a fixed screen's full display area. You WILL get black bars top and bottom, even with the most expensive HDTV in the world. About the only way you can successfully accommodate is with custom modifications or a front projection system splashed onto a wall.
I guess this makes good blogging fodder for Engadget though.
2007 Ford Focus gets an extra 3 mpg from the EPA {Autoblog Green}
Oct 30th 2006 5:40PM Kinda "too little, too late" there, Ford... I wonder what those improved mileage ratings will drop to when the new EPA testing standards go into effect...

Sep 18th 2006 2:59PM The "Comment Up" & "Comment Down" buttons are a little too brightly colored and prominent on the page. Maybe tone down with greys or outline-only that show color only on mouseover?
Google and Apple talking video? {Engadget}
Sep 18th 2006 1:20PM Could be kind of difficult, considering the Google's GVI format is really just an incarnation of Microsoft's AVI format. Be a lot of work to convert everything to Apple's MPEG4, unless Apple's planning on supporting more video file formats.
Is Rachel Bilson Wonder Woman? {Cinematical}
Sep 14th 2006 6:25PM Nope, I can't see all 5'3" of Rachel Bilson, even in high heel boots, being tall enough to qualify as being the statuesque, amazon lady that is Wonder Woman... Maybe in her teen years...?

Toshiba brings 2nd-gen HD DVD action to the US {Engadget}
Sep 14th 2006 2:49PM Wow. Second gen players already?? What's the difference other than "full 1080P", HDMI 1.3 and slimmer cabinets? Are these still PC components disguised as AV equipment?
