　關於這個問題的謠言有兩個。

　首先，由於中華電信已經與宏達電簽訂綁售 HTC Diamond 手機的合約，為了避免手上的王牌互戕，因此即便與 Apple 談妥引進 iPhone 3G，也不可能在 HTC Diamond 的檔期內上市。

　其次，Apple 的 iPhone 定價規劃是採用二分法，分成「已開發國家」與「落後國家、開發中國家、特殊地區」兩種，落後、開發中國家代表消費能力低落，或是居民通信不以手機為主，Apple 傾向在這些地區銷售解鎖機種，並收取買斷時的一次性收益；已開發國家則意味著消費者購買能力較佳，有本事在兩年綁約期間創造較高的通信量，Apple 在這些地區銷售綁約版的 iPhone 3G，並對合作通信商依客戶消費收取一定比例的回扣。

　那麼，什麼是「一定比例的回扣」呢？就是這個客戶在綁約兩年間所有的流動性費用（通信費、上網費、短信費、其他附加費等），全部都要照比例按月給 Apple 納貢，據傳這個比例大約是 40% 左右；換句話說，如果這個通信用戶每個月約有 3000 元台幣的通信費，則在兩年間所創造的七萬兩千元收益裡，Apple 共要取走 28,800 元的回扣（系統商得 43,200 元）。
