Computex 2008：WiMAX行不行(01)WiMAX為什麼今年不MAX?

（上稿者按：由於我們Computex展時間都抓得很緊，再加上又是以產品為主，雖然會寫到，但以寫作型態而言，並不是很適合寫WiMAX的東西，因為個人覺得WiMAX的觀察，可能比實際的產品還來得重要。所以個人特別請對WiMAX有一定程度觀察的寫手，來寫較為深度的報導，提供給讀者。我是拗他寫三篇，不過他只有交兩篇。龔兄，這樣太沒意思了，科科，今天把第三篇生出來吧）



繼去年10月火熱登場的WiMAX Forum，結果今年的WiMAX EXPO卻不如去年熱鬧，其實並不意外，畢竟去年WiMAX獲得國際電信組織核可，正式成為3G的一員，不過WiMAX廣義而言與3G並不相似，其他的3G通訊協定都有包含語音的部份，但是WiMAX卻是以數據傳輸為主，唯一的轉捩點在於，由於獲得認可，原本WiMAX一直未定案的頻譜，終於可以與其他3G共享。也由於此緣故，去年WiMAX Forum聲勢大噪，各會員也將壓箱寶拿出來展示。

WiMAX seems to be an awesome solution to on-the-go connectivity. Since the WiMAX Forum was launched in October last year, we have covered all kinds of products and many possible applications of WiMAX. However, the WiMAX EXPO this year didn't turn out to be as popular as last year. What happened to this rising star? 所以該怎麼說呢，WiMAX能幹麼，其實去年就展的差不多了，本來WiMAX能幹麼，其實說穿了也不過就是可以在80公里（未來目標是120公里）移動間使用的高速無線網路，也就是說，你家2M/256可以做的事情，以後可以一邊開車一邊做，前提是你不要命的話...也因為如此，今年Atticus認為WiMAX公車沒什麼看頭，老實說是可以預期到的，畢竟去年精銳盡出，而且體驗巴士已經是第三年了，重點的體驗項目是WiMAX在移動中的無縫連結，加上WiMAX等於是長距離版本的Wi-Fi，應用能玩什麼，其實也不是這些硬體廠商跟WiMAX Forum能決定的，最終WiMAX要拿來做什麼應用，都是看系統服務商打算幹麼而定。

WiMAX was approved by ITU and became a member of the 3G family. However, in a broader sense, WiMAX is actually different from 3G. All the other 3G protocols include voice transmission, but WiMAX is solely based on data transmission. Nonetheless, the approval by ITU allows WiMAX to share the frequency with other 3G protocols. Therefore, WiMAX becomes the rising star of telecommunication, and the industrial partners of WiMAX Forum have unveiled all kinds of products.

So what exactly can WiMAX do? In simple terms, WiMAX is a long-range wireless network that allows you to stay connected at up to 80 km/hr. What you usually do on your computer at work or at home can now be done in your car (that is, if you have daredevil driving skills). Most of its application was already demonstrated last year, so there is really nothing new to see this year. Also, system providers will determine what to offer on the WiMAX network, and the end-user device will follow, not the other way around. As a result, the WiMAX EXPO is kind of boring this year, unless the Forum comes up with new applications.


如果功耗問題能解決 WiMAX手持上網裝置才有搞頭

我稍微看了一下，今年比較特殊的應用，僅有大眾與保全業者結盟的WiMAX運鈔系統，那個無線提款機就算了，核心的價值在於運鈔車採用WiMAX全程監視錄影，這真的是WiMAX最大的賣點應用，如此一來，即便被搶劫，遠端也還能保有全程的錄影畫面，不至於錄影帶被拿走。此外，WiMAX會對導航圖資業者造成相當大的打擊，尤其Google在美國投標700MHz頻段，原本就是想用在WiMAX，如果WiMAX真的實現，那很抱歉，都會圖資跟本不需花錢買什麼Papago或是TomTom，直接利用網路圖資就可以了，當中程目標的120公里行動傳輸完成，只要不飆車，在高速公路基本上也夠用了。

語音應用是筆者一直不得其解為什麼非得用WiMAX不可的方向

其實WiMAX的應用中，對於其基本架構最不利的應用是室內的應用，由於WiMAX採用高頻傳輸，遇到障礙會因為反射而衰竭，一到室內還是Wi-Fi比較實在。不過WiMAX也並非真的那麼差，只不過請記得WiMAX目前的特性是：1.適合戶外、.距離較長、可行動使用。2..不太省電，目前約1W，與Wi-Fi差不多。3.不是萬能，請搭配Wi-Fi以及其他有線網路技術服用才能達到最佳使用效果。

下一篇（如果還有的話），小弟繼續聊聊自己這半年多來對於台灣WiMAX營運商的觀察。

WiMAX will also shake the GPS market, as Google maps will be easily accessible in car and you can say good-bye to Papago or TomTom.

Under the current standard, WiMAX is limited to out-door use, because the signal gets significantly weaker in door. Therefore, you will still need to switch back to Wi-Fi at home to maximize your network connectivity. The portability of WiMAX handheld devices remains limited until their power consumption problem can be solved.

為什麼要和語音結合?
最主要的還是基於SIP的原因.
可以達到voip的效果.

雖然現有的行動電話、市話都能達到電話的目的.
最終還是希望能VOIP.
讓頻率使用效率達到最高.

因為語音應用是一般人上手最快，學習曲線最短的應用之ㄧ
其他的應用都是可有可無。

不是我想否決兩位的看法
但是要走語音的應用 必須先搞定功耗問題
但是利用wimax的流量傳送語音的部份原本就有問題
畢竟wimax的基礎架構是建立在數據傳送上
目前語音的部份gsm聯盟已經做的不錯了 沒必要去與其競爭
除非wiamx聯盟能夠針對低功耗的語音封包制定新的傳輸協定
不然就同時整合在手機內即可
此外 voip目前全球還未有定論前 怎麼玩都玩不出個所以然
別忘了全球都有固網業者霸佔
哪輪到這個一出現就可能壓垮現有固網結構的voip
別忘記當初wifi voip手機的教訓（攤手

小弟是在這個行業掙扎的工程師，搞VoIP。
針對這個問題，有幾點跟大家分享：

電話語音基本上屬於各國的電信產業的範疇
所以要進去，要嘛就是電信業者的得標者。
要麼就是自己搞得，類似skype，skype已經
失去他的黃金時間，現在是要大不大的困境。
這個告訴我們，當敵人可以一次擊垮時，絕對
不要錯失機會，錯失機會等於謀殺自己。

至於sip based的voip會不會起來，
看來還是要看電信業者的心胸

那wimax上跑voip，基本上這是最簡單最容易達成
的服務，如果連這個都無法demo，wimax就沒有
戲唱了。

在我個人的觀點，wimax是很好的公用網路平台，
用來作一些公益事業很不錯。例如救護車，警車
之類的。真的很棒。但是這些要怎麼賺錢？
難！3G也可以達到。台灣政府一向不是很正視台灣的公共財產，尤其這些事業關係到緊要關頭。

因此wimax的舞台，難啊難啊，真的很難找個好的區隔點。連見縫插針的機會都很少。
如果連Voip都無法demo，請問wimax還有什麼可看？

P2P over wimax?一個基地台可以容納多少使用者？
再說p2p的特性，本來就不適用於wireless網路，
應該說是天生特性，p2p和wireless就是衝到。想想看
一個基地台可以有多少頻寬可以這樣傳來傳去？
就知道了。在我看來wimax是一匹沒有戰場的戰馬，
沒有路可以跑，沒有將軍可以載，沒有戰場可以奔馳。

WIMAX這個技術之優良 我想是不用懷疑了
但在3G和固網業擠爆的台灣 要怎麼殺出血路呢
靜觀其變吧
