Toshiba 將在今年於自家筆電上安裝採用 Cell 架構的 GPU/顯示晶片 SpursEngine

Toshiba 以 Cell 處理器為基礎的 SpursEngine 顯示晶片到底何去何從，現在終於是有著落了！

根據 Register Hardware 報導，Toshiba 從今年開始，將會在部份以多媒體功能為主打的自家電腦上，安裝這顆顯示晶片，並且在明年秋天前拓展到電視、DVD~~、HD DVD~~ 等多媒體相關產品上。而晶片本身，主要就是依賴四個跟 Cell 處理器類似的協同處理器單元（Synergistic Processing Element）來處理相當繁重的影像工作，諸如將正常解析度的影片拉高到高解析（Toshiba 又稱為超解析，不過沒說可拉到幾 p 就是...）這一類的工作。

至於加料版的電腦會貴上多少，目前則是沒有個下文，各位有興趣的讀者可以耐心等候。

HD DVD的部分有好笑到....XD

這個不能算是GPU吧(以目前一般對GPU的認知)，他算是一個影像處裡器，基本上電視裡面都有類似的晶片，就像Sony的WEGA engine，BRAVIA Engine一樣，負責把調整輸入影像以達到最佳化。
超取樣基本上不是新技術，在音響界早就用這招來提高聲音表現，將DVD畫質拉高至1080P輸出的撥放機也早就有了，但是拉高解析度能夠有的改善也只能到一個程度，source的資料量還是最重要的變因。
