這將是傷痕累累 MiniDisc 的絕命終結站嗎？似乎真的是這個樣子，在 MiniDisc 社群論壇（MiniDisc Community Forums）最近興起的運動可以瞧見一二。儘管那裡不完全是培育反 MiniDisc 運動的溫床，然而其中一位成員指出新力最近的營運策略對於 MiniDisc 格式似乎是不聞不問，在公司年度報告中也沒有任何關於 MiniDisc 新進展的內容，除了這麼一段話提到「...消費者似乎偏愛從 CD 和 MD 為載體的產品中，（將音樂）轉到硬碟以及快閃記憶體當中...」假使新力執行長 Howard Stringer 已經大砍將近一萬個員工職位，不難想像 MiniDisc 部門不會被波及到。希望新力順便也把 ATRAC 格式廢掉好了，畢竟連 SonicStage 軟體也走向盡頭了。
